We were busy with lots of other fun things this year, but did manage to track down one beautiful and memorable site.
Duntryleague passage tomb
Ireland was originally covered with woods and forests, but they were nearly all cleared for agriculture long ago. In recent decades, efforts have been made to reforest the land, and this hill was thick with foliage and trees. We followed the path up the steep hill and found this nestled in at the top. It would have been covered with a cairn but again all that’s left are the big stones.
The three capstones are unusual and evoke the feeling of descending into the earth, perfectly balanced after 5,000 years.
There were other wonderful trips in the following years, but it wasn’t until 2005 that I returned to see more megalithic sites. Click here for that.
